Mariner's Draft Survey (“the app”) is a tool for ship's officers on bulk carriers: draft surveys, stowage and loading-sequence planning, trimming, ballast and voyage planning. This policy explains how the app handles your information. It applies to the app on Android (Google Play) and on iPhone (App Store) alike.
Data we process
All data you create in the app — vessel profiles, hydrostatic and tank tables, draft readings, soundings, surveys, stowage and sequence plans, draft logs, grab counts, voyage plans and generated reports — is stored locally on your device. None of it is sent to us or to any third party.
Files you import (Excel/CSV tables, photos) or export (PDF reports, backups) are read from and written to your own device storage, or to the place you choose when saving. A backup file contains your app data and goes only where you put it.
Data we collect
None. The app has no user accounts, no analytics of its own, no advertising and no tracking. It opens the website, the store page or your email app only when you tap a link to them.
Reading text from photos (Google ML Kit)
The Draft Reader and importing a table from a photo use Google ML Kit text recognition. The recognition runs on your device: your photos and the text read from them are never sent anywhere.
ML Kit itself sends Google anonymous diagnostic and usage information — the device model and operating-system version, the app's identifier and version, a per-installation identifier, performance figures and error codes. It is not linked to you, not used for tracking, and is described in Google's Android and iOS data disclosures.
Permissions
Each permission is asked for only when you use the feature that needs it, and is used only on your device:
- Camera and photos: to photograph or pick draft marks and the pages of hydrostatic or tank tables, so the app can read them. Photos are not uploaded.
- Notifications: for Ballast Watch alerts when a tank nears its limit while pumping. On iPhone these are time-sensitive, so they come through a Focus.
- Motion sensors and flashlight: the Heel Meter reads the phone's inclination, and may flash the light and sound a tone as cues. Readings stay on the device.
- Files: only when you choose to import a table, save a report or make or restore a backup, solely for that action.
Data retention and deletion
Because all data is stored locally, you remain in full control. You can delete any survey, plan or vessel profile within the app, or remove all data by uninstalling the app. Backups you made remain wherever you saved them until you delete them.
Children's privacy
The app is intended for maritime professionals and is not directed at children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this same URL with a new “Last updated” date.
